My name is Kate and I’m approaching my thirties a little quicker that I’d like. This blog is about all sorts of random stuff, but I guess what moves me most is personal development and improving my lifestyle for a more healthy and sustainable future.
I know a little about a lot, but I also have a BA in French from Bangor University. When I graduated, I had the good fortune to be accepted onto the language assistant programme in Guadeloupe, which was a fascinating growing experience which has shaped who I am today. On my return, I trained to be a teacher, and I taught in Secondary education for three and a half years. Teaching is the steepest learning curve anyone can climb, but I reluctantly left the profession as I felt that I was “burnt out” and had little life outside of school.
It cannot be coincidence that I left my teaching post and started a relationship with the love of my life (my husband to be - HTB as he is known in this blog). The personal sacrifice of taking a 1/3 pay cut and moving back to live with my folks was definitely worth it. After leaving teaching, I worked as a bilingual customer service advisor, working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern until I was made redundant in March of this year.
Fortunately, I found another job straight away and closer to home, and no shifts. I moved in with HTB in April 2007 and now work at the local college as manager of the student job shop and student representation co-ordinator. I am getting very good at marketing and motivating apathetic people!
I love using social networking sites and virtual learning environments, which blends with my interest to set up my online business - very much in the planning stages at the moment, so watch this space! My goal is to acheive financial freedom so that I am free to live where I want, travel, and squeeze every last drop out of my existence as Kate Saltfleet.
My other interests include saving the planet, cooking (turned veggie in October 2007, vegan in May 2008), yoga and knitting. I don’t knit nearly as much as I would like to though, and spend far too much time on the internet living vicariously through Facebook and reading blogs.

Your are my muse; Your polenta looks fabulous! My daughters are allergic to wheat and I am running out of ideas, but somehow polenta has fallen off the radar. And my Romanian grandfather would be ashamed of me for not serving the family mamaliga.
(love your blog =;?}
ps
I wasn’t able to comment to the polenta post.
I’ve played around with comments, you should be able to comment on future posts
nice “about me” page. i feel like i know you now. i should spruce mine up to reveal more.
how is your veggie-journey going?
missy.
groovy veg.
Thanks Missy,
Vegging out is going great. I’m discovering soya products at the moment, looking at dumping the dairy. One step at a time though!

Hi, Kate,
Hello.
I suppose you got to know about my blog from my daughter, Along, who is also in U of Bangor.
Very happy that her friends include people like you.
You have listed me as being amongst your “kind bloggers”. Thank you. That’s a great way of being known.
You have a nice day.
Thanks
PS: Have you tagged me yet? Or is something supposed to happen. I am technologically challenged, so you have to help me out here.
I just like ur profile. You seem so down to earth.
Have a nice day !
Hi Kate,

I like your goal of geographical independence and financial independence. I have similar goals too. Its inspiring pursuing these goals.
