Top energy-boosting breakfast ideas
December 5, 2007 by katesaltfleet
As promised, here are some of my favorite energy boosting breakfast ideas. Breakfast is very important to me, I’d rather sacrifice an extra 15 minutes in bed than miss it. I have an allergy to anything complicated that takes more than five minutes to prepare in a morning, so they’re all super-easy. Have fun!
Power Museli
I mix my power museli in advance, so that all I have to do in the morning is pour it out of the container and add soya milk. At the moment I eat this most of all. Power museli is simply store bought swiss museli (cheap-o own brand approx 500g) with the following ingredients added.
50g dried apricots, chopped
50g pumpkin seeds
50g sunflower seeds
50g whole hazelnuts
Before serving, I sprinkle a dessert spoon of milled flax seed on the top and add my soya milk. It’s great.
Berry boost shake
Take 2 dessertspoons of mixed frozen berries (I like rasperries), add 200ml soya milk and whizz in the blender. Add brown sugar or honey to taste, and you could add milled flax seed to it (this will thicken the shake as well as giving you extra omega 3 and 6).
Ginger apple juice
This is really zingy with organic apple juice, simply add some grated root ginger or a little powdered ginger root. This brings back bittersweet memories of the Colon Cleanse.
Toast
I love toast, peanut butter is a great protein boost first thing. Alternatively I like dairy-free spread with marmite. If I’m having toast, I’ll have a piece of fruit as well to boost my vitamin intake.
Porridge
Whether you make it with oats or quinoa, porridge is a clear winner for the really cold mornings. I make it without milk and add raisins or chopped prunes.
Banana and yogurt
Super-simple and delicious, slice one medium banana and serve with greek or soya yogurt. Add a teaspoon of honey if liked.

Peanut butter toast is the best! With hot tea…ahhh. I am with you, if it takes more than a few minutes to prep, I don’t want any parts of it in the morning!
Yes, I’m not into scrabbling around first thing. I was going to comment on your blog, Smirking Cat, but I haven’t got the energy to sign up to the evil empire of Google/Blogger right now. Maybe tomorrow?
Ha ha, no problem. I temporarily changed my settings so you won’t have to create a Google/Blogger account. I had to restrict comments for a while because of some whacked-out losers who kept leaving “anonymous” comments even though I knew who they were…I know, lame!
