Naming the Day
November 21, 2007 by katesaltfleet
HTB and I have been engaged since March and we’ve not set a wedding date yet. The weird thing is that neither of us wants one of those engagements that just drags on and on with no wedding in sight, we do have a timescale in mind (July/August next year). It’s just that arranging the wedding has evaded us thus far. We’ll get it sorted in our own time. I don’t want to be one of those scary bridezillas who freaks out if every last detail isn’t just so. We don’t want to go into debt to finance one day at the expense of the rest of our lives together. HTB and I want our special day with our special people, that’s it.
However, it is starting to get embarassing in social situations:
Friend: So, you guys set a date yet?
Us: Uh, well not as such. Probably July or August. But then it could be June if England don’t make Euro 2008.
MILTB (mother in law to be): Have you set a date yet? I need to know when to book my holiday.
Us: 8th August, no, wait, 12th July, well some time around then.
Sister: When are you getting married? I need to sort out when to book time off with work.
Us: You’ll be the first to know.
Friend from work: When’s your wedding date?
Me: It’s top secret. We don’t even know when it is yet.
Joking apart though, we really do need to get things moving. But then it comes to that age old question - whose wedding is it anyway? We don’t want a big wedding, there will be less than 20 guests and I’m not fussed about the date particularly (although I will do some period maths to ensure that I’m not on honeymoon at That Time). Then there’s Christmas, and my job situation is up for review at the moment, so it’s somewhat shelved for now. It’s not that I’m not excited about getting married (as will become clear as the time gets closer), but it’s one day and life goes on.
It’s on the goals for 2008 list. And when we finally do get it sorted, you’ll be the first to know. ![]()
