Blog action day 15 Oct

So here is my contribution. A musing on the concept of the Car Club. The other day my curiosity led me to the Green Thing website and there was a section about joining a car club. Apparently, you either use a pay as you go system, or a monthly subscription, and on those occasions you need to use a car, you simply book the time out before returning the car to a designated place in your locality. What an excellent idea!

But, then in my area, probably unlikely. Sure enough, the map showed that these schemes were starting to take on in the larger cities (and “right on” places like Brighton). I do not live in any of these places, I live in North East Lincolnshire. Never heard of it, right?

But lo, what came through the door on Saturday morning (no thanks to the postal strike), but a questionnaire from the local council and a group called Car Plus - rethinking car use. It looks like they are doing market research into the possibility of setting up such a scheme in our area. Naturally, I have filled in the questionnaire and requested updates of the progress of the scheme. I really do hope that this comes about, but not wishing to be unkind to the good citizens of North East Lincolnshire, they do not have a reputation of being “out there” and “happening” or “open to new ideas”.
