Clutter - my starting point
August 7, 2007 by katesaltfleet
As I have mentioned before, Flylady’s website and encouraging emails have been a strong influence in my one habit at a time approach. See, I’m an all-or-nothing kinda gal. Once I’ve made up my mind (that’s another story), I just want to go ahead and ninja in like white lightening and get the job done.
Experience and maturity are showing me that that’s not the way to make lasting changes. Sure, it gets results, and impressive ones at that. However, I *know* that unless I commit to some regular clutter clearing habits, then the mess will come back. It’s a bit like going on a crash diet for a week, losing a stack of weight, only to pile it all back on (and then some). My plan is to combine the two approaches and get the place habitable again.
At the moment we live in a storeroom. Two rooms are currently unusable. Furniture remains unassembled as there is no space to put it up due to piles of clutter. Three rooms have bare walls, desperately waiting for paint or paper. Our house is hardly fit for anyone to come over and visit, but I will be brave and publish some pictures of our chaos so the whole world can see. I want to document the change from a clutter disaster zone to a clean, healthy home. I want to show the world what can be achieved by changing one thing at a time. Our home is only the beginning. The best thing about all this is that we have free reign to start all over. I can Feng Shui the house to maximum effect using symbolic colours and furniture placements. We can re-assess what we use each room for and rationalise what is really needed there. It’s going to be hard work and patience will be required, but the important thing is to keep focused on the goal and moving in the right direction.

Stumble It!
